It’s been a while since the last event review I did last May 30th, I just don’t know what happened to me lately because I’ve been pressuring myself hard to write some stuffs. There is one thing I could blame about this, some illegal bullshit that makes me drop off my focus too bad. Anyway everything has its side effects but regrets are in the end to follow through. Well currently I’m at the middle of the class semester so things might not be too easy to balance in and out.

Well enough of that excuse and now let’s get in to the straight topic shall we? As a hardcore fan of trance music for 2 years now, the possibility of attending live events seems unlikely so far. Last Aug 30th, 2014 I traveled alone to Manila from Cebu to catch my first ever “White Party” sponsored by Bigfish International (the same organizers who co-promoted the Armin Only Intense here in PH ). This event was supposed to happen last June 27, 2014 with international DJs Cosmic Gate & Khomha but moved to a different schedule, whilst prior to this event the German Trance duo Cosmic Gate had their gig at Club Haze with also the same date.

The two main acts are DJs Jochen Miller and Khomha. I first heard of these guys back in 2012 when I was still starting to know more about Trance/EDM, Jochen for his set at “ASOT550 Miami” and Khomha’s track “Dark Knight“ which I first heard it in one of the ASOT episodes. So fast forward to 2014 and these two dudes really changed a lot with their styles, Jochen Miller; a former trance producer tries to experiment different genres from trance/electro/progressive etc. and blends them into his unique kind of DJ set while Khomha’s production has been greatly influenced by the “Coldharbour Sounds” thanks to the support by the “unicorn slayer” Mr. Markus Schulz.

Event Rundown:

The theme for this all white event has been a tradition since 2008 I think, other than that maybe they got the idea for this kind of concept in one of the most famous festival/parties in Europe; ID&T’s Sensation White. It’s still held in Amsterdam, Netherlands and other chosen countries, also a former Trance Event in its early years but promoters changed their genre of choice to House music since then.

In all things being serious, some of my friends think I’m too crazy going to Manila just to party for this event. I also bought a long sleeve shirt for 900 php for the dress code to be white. So should I even give a damn about what they think of me? HELL NO for sure! So I arrived at the venue around 10:30 pm and there were still few party peeps at that moment. As I walked through the building, one bouncer/guard or whatever checked up on me and asked if I have a lighter brought, and I said yes and showed to him my Marlboro sticks too. He explained to me that no lighter/smoking should be allowed inside because it’s air-conditioned, so he almost confiscated my lighter but allows me to enter with those cigarettes?  Well FUCK his logic though, I said to him that I will just return it to a friend outside, but I secretly hide it under my shoes and got pass those unnecessary restrictions LOL. After that I didn’t know what to do inside so I immediately enter their kinda cool entrance and just stayed close to the bar area.

Well I also noticed or observed that some of the people weren’t wearing the exact dress code, so I guess I got stumbled into some fake fans for sure! The prices for the drinks were ok, 150 php for two cups of San Mig Light but still it didn’t hit me up so I bought more (fucking wasting my money, I should have my pre-game somewhere outside). The warm-up or opening sets were played by our local DJs - Gavin Skewes, Chris Raeuber & Ian Sndrz, they played mostly Progressive and House tracks which are really not my thing but they still execute the vibe perfectly inside the venue which I give them a plus.

After finishing 5 cups of beer I went to the front area where the barricades are located and waited for the main acts to show up and that was already 12:00 am, then after all the waiting there was an intro around 1 am.

Well there will be no tracklisting this time, some of tracks were kinda cool but were not familiar unless I’ll put mostly ID-ID here and ID-ID there for the list. I also printed out a choon! sign which always be relatable if someone is a “Chair Raver” by heart and also listens to some of the best radioshows out there, so I showed the sign up front and Jochen Miller had noticed it when he played Rotunda and few trance anthems.

As for Jochen Miller’s set, he delivered an energetic vibe and his mixing skills was top-notch, though most tracks he played were not trance-y enough but I was still enjoying it foremost cause he played a 2 hr set and not the usual 1 hr you get in a festival. As for Khomha, he also had a 2hr set which filled with coldharbour influences that got cooled me down for the finish! So am I too humble with these guys? Honestly, it doesn’t matter for me whether they played a different style with whatever you expect, I’ve been following them around for 2 years now so I’m really not that surprised by the way. The Bigfish crew had done a great job with their generosity giving away free bottled water for the crowd and sunglasses freebies which I luckily got, also let’s not forget MC Lavoce who also did his thing pumping up the crowd!

I also thought this will be the last trance-y lineup that Bigfish could offer, so why not attend at least though right. The promoters are really in for a change so that they cater more as to what is popular nowadays since it’s the thing that most party-goers wants. As to what I said above, attending trance events seems unlikely for me but I’m still having my fingers crossed as to who will be the lineup for Oct 25 - Cream Halloween Ball this year!
